Gilthead Seabream (Sparus aurata)

This film shows a broodstock group of gilthead seabream, which are the main species of seabream reared in European aquaculture systems.

This species is common to the mediterranean sea and present along the eastern Atlantic coasts, from Great Britain to Senegal. It is a protandrous hermaphrodite, with males reaching sexual maturity at 2 years, and females at 2-3 years.
