Sharpsnout seabream (Diplodus puntazzo)

This species is found in the eastern Atlantic ocean, Mediterranean and Black seas and also off South Africa.

It is a permanent hermaphrodite with some protandric episodes (behaving as a male after its first sexual maturity, to become a female later on). Reproduction occurs between the end of the summer and early autumn.

The film above shows a group of broodstock sharpsnout seabream, at the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR) in Greece. This film was produced by Constantinos Mylonas.
